Family And Early Life
Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill was born into an aristocratic family on November 30th, 1874. His father, Lord Randolph Churchill, was a charismatic politician who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer. A position similar to the United States' Secretary of the Treasury. His mother was Jennie Jerome, an American born woman who would never have a very close relationship with Winston. His younger brother john would go on to become a major in the army. Winston and John always maintained a close relationship together.
Winston Churchill’s military career began when he admitted into Harrow School in 1888, at the age of 18, where he joined the Harrow Rifle Corps. He entered the school at the bottom of his class academically. However, he did excel in English and history which he showed a special interest in. After struggling at Harrow, he graduated and enrolled into Sandhurst military college. There, Winston admitted into the cavalry and graduated 20th in his class.
